Trainees will participate in live fire advanced weapons handling specific for vehicle and urban operations utilizing issued weapons including duty handgun and the patrol rifle in order to enhance individual lethality and increase officer survivability.
Trainees will participate in terminal ballistics demonstration that has been designed to increase trainees level of understanding of the performance of duty ammunition and weapons systems when fired into various barriers including the vehicle body, door panels, engine blocks and auto glass. During this demonstration, trainees will investigate entry and exit paths as well as whether certain types of ammunition will penetrate these types of barriers. Instructors will fire into concrete blocks to observe the effects and performance through this type of medium. Trainees will observe the effects of other common weapon systems that law enforcement officers typically see on the street. During this demonstration, instructors will highlight the need to select appropriate fire positions when using vehicles as cover based on the terminal performance of the ammunition.
Following the ballistics demonstration, training will switch gears and focus to specific actions on procedures where trainees will rehearse responses and reaction to contact as well as initiating contact based on the totality of the circumstances and the deadly force triangle during ambush, felony stops, and traffic stops. During these scenarios, trainees will learn and rehearse emergency evacuation procedures to enhance survivability and employ the nearest hard cover. Trainees will also learn and rehearse appropriate times when firing through patrol vehicle will be necessary in order to mitigate threats and move to more advantageous positions.
Trainees will be taught current tactics developed by Redback One that have been vetted are used by United States Special Operations personnel operating in a reduced visibility, limited resources capacity and operating from thin skin vehicles in high-threat locations globally. The general concepts of these tactics are to immediately increase distance, change angles and employ hard cover in order to increase survivability when under fire and when the initiative has been lost. These tactics will provide options for trainees to apply lethal force from cover and maneuver against the suspect(s) in order to regain the initiative, take back lost ground during the initial contact and neutralize the threat(s).
These tactics will pertain to singleton operations and two-man elements when contacted from the front, rear and from the flanks.During these dynamic training exercises trainees will receive a block of instruction that will incorporate officer down rescues and the application of Tactical Emergency Casualty Care. Lessons will include the tenants of TECC, Direct Threat Care, hemorrhage control, tourniquet application and hemostatic agents.
Practical training exercises including reality-based training will follow initial instruction and instructor demonstrations to drill students and prepare them for operational service in a crawl, walk, run concept, using dry fire, non-lethal training ammunition and live ammunition.
